Dan About Thailand

Is Pattaya suitable to raise a family?!

Pattaya is one of the most judged cities in the world. Loud, chaotic, touristy, sometimes seedy… and yet thousands of families quietly live normal lives here every single day. School runs, football training, work, beach days, routines and community. In this vlog I wanted to give a genuinely balanced perspective — not pretending Pattaya is perfect, but also not pretending everywhere else is either.

A lot of the advice I give people moving to Thailand is actually advice that applies almost anywhere in the world: be careful who you trust, don’t rush relationships, don’t lend money you can’t afford to lose, and don’t take life advice from the guy sitting in the bar every night. Places like Pattaya can magnify bad decisions, but they don’t automatically create them. I’ve met people here living their best life… and others destroying themselves. Usually the biggest factor wasn’t the location — it was the choices they made.

As I’ve got older, I’ve realised life is less about finding the “perfect” place and more about building stability, opportunity and routine wherever you are. There are definitely things I miss about the UK — culture, old friends, familiarity — but there are also opportunities and experiences here my family never would’ve had otherwise. This vlog is my honest thoughts on the reality of raising a family in Pattaya after years of living here.
