I first visited Samui back in 2006 and the changes since to this island have been startling. It has become far more commercialised and Chaweng in particular has become awash with restaurants and bars. But, for me, the development makes its the complete tourist destination.

The two islands that also make my top three are Koh Chang and Koh Tao, and given that I have visited 11 islands in Thailand it gives these three islands some credibility to top the list. But everyone will have different views so I am sure my top 3 will be debated!

But why Samui?

Why Samui does it for me is in the options. You have Koh Phangan and Koh Tao within short ferry trips which gives you a diversity of islands if you can cover all three in one vacation.  Koh Tao is stunning, just stunning, and is my favourite island by some distance. However if you cannot ride a motorbike, don’t bother – it’s the only real way to move around the island.

Samui has some great beaches and places to swim, snorkeling is pretty good too. It has plenty of other attractions too from waterfalls, zoos, go-karting to excursions. In fact, for a 2 week holiday you can have an incredible time.

I spent 4 days on the island, my fourth visit to date, and such was the things to do I was able to do a different vlog everyday; my first, of which, is below.

If you are keen on why I rate Koh Tao so much, take a look at one of my vlogs from this beautiful island – click here.

Also the surprisingly unfashionable Koh Chang is also well worth visiting, here is one of my vlogs from this island too – click here.
