When the pandemic hit Thailand it devastated tourist dependent communities and cities, like Pattaya.
With no tourists and lockdowns in place, bars, clubs and restaurants closed over night. With no tourists pounding the streets, street vendors businesses become surplus and closed. The ripple down effect meant those on the breadline were left with nothing. With no tourists consuming food and drink, trash dried up and those who went through the bins to get plastics to recycle and make money, no longer had a revenue stream.
The situation was dire and thousands of Thais found themselves unemployed and unable to feed themselves.
It makes what Pattaya Expat Mark Reid did in Jomtien that even more remarkable. Mark was clearly not the only Expat to support and help feed the needy, but his story was humbling and needed to be documented and shared.
