For many visitors to Thailand images of wonderful beaches, a cosmopolitan happening Bangkok city, delightful cuisine and stunning Temples may spring to mind. Agriculture may not even get a mention. Yet agriculture is an important foundation to the countries income and it leads the way in export such as Pineapple and rice.

My journey today took me to Nongpradu, some 2 hours North West of Bangkok, an area built on agriculture – from corn, rice, mangoes and papaya.

Rice is the country’s most important crop, with some 60 percent of Thailand’s 13 million farmers growing it on almost half of Thailand’s cultivated land.

Agriculture accounts for only six percent of GDP in Thailand but the sector employs around one-third of the country’s labor force.
