Ok, the title is a big, big hypothesis but I hope it stopped you in your track. That was the point, it is, after all, Pattaya I am are talking about. Most of us would agree on certain things about Pattaya but after that there is a huge polarisation of views.
We can all agree that Pattaya is a coastal tourist destination in Thailand that has lots of bars and a full on party scene. We can also agree that the tourist demographic tends to be budget. Finally we can also agree that it is a popular retiree destination and that many of these retirees enjoy a few beers.
That is where any consensus ends and you get two clear groups after that. Those that cannot stand the place and others who adore it.
I have a somewhat love hate relationship with the town. It has bundles of things one can do and is very near Bangkok and such locations, but some of the individuals in the town – foreign and Thai – can be frustrating to say the least. Anyway, here is my vlog in defense of the city that I published some time ago. It got huge support when first posted directly to Facebook and last time I looked it had topped 100k views.
Pattaya is one of those locations that I cannot work out if I like it or not, I don’t really know what to compare it with and if I would get a better lifestyle living elsewhere. I have lived in Pattaya for over 10 years. For business, it has to be Bangkok, for beaches a Samui, to relax Hua Hin…but all these locations are easy to get to from Pattaya. So as a hub it is very convenient.
