After 12 years of living in Thailand I had never found the time or had the motivation to head to Khao San Road in Bangkok. Known for it’s young wild backpacker parties it did have a trendy and must see status in Thailand but after visiting myself I think it is living on a legacy now. It is more of a tourist trap and I see some parallels with Walking Street Pattaya without the ago-gos and bar girls (and for the record Walking Street has a bigger Wow factor for first timers).
I really wanted to like Khao San Road but try as I did, I couldn’t. Bangkok is a monster of a destination as for a tourist you are spoilt for choice, given this I would not recommend the trip to Khao San Road – there are far better places to go.
