Why do Thais continue to wear a face mask even though it is no longer mandatory?

Let me clear, this is not a dig at Thai behaviours as all nationality has its own set of unwritten behavioural rules and idiosyncrasies. It is however very interesting to see, in general, the foreigners in Thailand ditching their masks immediately upon the Governments announcement mask wearing is no longer mandatory, whilst Thais still keep wearing.

For me, I always hated wearing the masks but understood the rationale – especially when the Covid strain was more dangerous for those high at risk. It was just a good practice to try and control the situation.
