Defamation in Thailand is a criminal offense and can carry up to 2 years in prison. It is not acceptable to say or post bad things about people and this can catch Westerners out who are more used to passing comment and judgement about others, unaware of the consequences to them in Thailand.
It has taken me some time to get my head around this law, but it does have some basis for merit. In many ways, considering how to you tackle the subject, us Westerners could even learn from it.
