I happened to be in the Silom area of Bangkok last week and by chance stumbled across the Patpong Night Market being set up. When I saw fork lifts hurtling up and down the soi I just had to get my camera out and investigate.

Of course I had never really considered how daily markets were set up, I just assumed the vendors would unload their van each day, set up and then at the end of the day load their vans up and head off back home. Well, that was not the case at all – and in actual fact for a daily market it was a bit farcical to expect this.

Instead the vendors had a central storage area and given individual metal trunks to store their goods.

The market set up was like a well oiled machine with fork lift trucks and plenty of people on hand to rush the metal trunks out of storage to the individual market vendors.
