This morning I woke up tired, I didn’t sleep very well and had my usual early Monday morning start. The sun was shining, my pool in my villa was glistening and I had some great tasks to complete today at work. But, my mood was bad and I had no appetite to get the day up and running.

Through tiredness my outlook – perception – on the day was terrible. However, experience has taught me that it is being able to work effectively and get things done on these off days are what separate the boys from the men. My wife told me to go back to bed but, for me, that was not an option – I wanted to get things achieved today.

My bad mood did get me thinking on my drive to the office in Hua Hin. If you have negative perceptions on life then really it doesn’t matter where you live – you will be unhappy.

Yes, I empathise with many retirees living in Thailand being squeezed by the strength of the baht, it’s a tough hand they have been dealt, but to do nothing more than sit there and moan about it doesn’t solve the issue. Unless you are going to do something to fix the problem then you will do nothing more than put yourself in a bad place – and if that is the case, what is the point in even living in Thailand if your perception on your situation is going to be so bad?

Life is so short that we cannot afford ourselves the ‘pleasure’ of not making the most from it. Moaning will not fix the issue, but action will. Life always throws things up that can hurt us, but it is only how we handle that which will determine how happy we can be. At the end of the day, isn’t happiness what life is all about?

Often we have no choice in what life presents us with, but we do have a choice in how we handle it through our perceptions.

Change your perception and change your approach and don’t allow yourself to become negative or grumpy if things don’t go your way. You will only lose out further.

In respects to my situation today, I am doing all I can to shake off my bad mood – I know it’s just all in my head. What I won’t do is let it ruin my love of life and passion to do as much as I can with it. My first task is to get a nice iced coffee for the caffeine to ignite my engines!

I am not sure if this blog was a rant or not, it was just an observation based on how I felt today and I wanted to share it with you. How could I possibly feel low when living in a beautiful location like Hua Hin with my wonderful family, and yet for these couple of hours this morning that is exactly how I felt. It is a timely reminder that regardless of where you live in the world if you have not got your mentality and perception in check, you may end up unhappy – And that’s just a waste.

Keep smiling!
